via blackbeltjones, the Washington Post profiles Ben Shneiderman, my personal favorite UCD guru.
a couple of nuggets that stuck with me: the notion of computers as "telescopes and microscopes" (I really like this metaphor); and Shneiderman's resolute belief in user testing. He pretty much dismisses designers who insist on acting on their "hunches" as hopelessly wishful thinkers. hear hear.
