lights out
September 22, 2003
Hurricane Isabel may be receding into the blur of past news cycles, but as I learned from my parents last night, it's far from over.
Like 40% of Virginia residents, my folks have had no power for the past 5 days - and they may very well be waiting another 1-2 weeks for the lights to come back on; living on the edge of the city limits, they also have no running water, since our house relies on a private electric well.
OK, so life is still a whole lot worse in Baghdad - but still, it makes for a pretty grungy lifestyle for a semi-retired couple. At least the house is in good shape; a lot of properties, especially around Va beach and the outer banks of North Carolina, took severe beatings.
Seems like as good a reason as any to plug making a donation to the American Red Cross.
