Government job
October 10, 2003
Way back in March 2002, I spent a few weeks up in Victoria, British Columbia working on a redesign of the BC Province Web site, along with fellow IA Chris Rusay.
In what has got to be one of the longest lead times for any project I've worked on, the new site has launched (and bears at least some resemblance to the solution we originally proposed).
BC residents: Renew your drivers' license, reserve a campground, check ferry schedules, report wildlife sightings, or research trees (and more!).
But seriously, this project helped me realize that governments are not all inherently soulless bureaucracies; they are populated with real people, at least some of whom actually do care about making it easier for you to get a driver's license.
Bonus BC factoid: The official provincial motto is "splendor without diminishment."
