A walk in the woods

My parents' house sits next to 200 acres of pristine Virginia woods, surrounding a nameless old lake. When I went home for Thanksgiving, I learned that they're planning to build a new middle school out there. So before they put up the proverbial parking lot, I wanted to take one last walk out to the lake:
