Christmas Eve Memoriam
December 24, 2006
One year ago today, Leslie Harpold graciously offered me space to share an old family story on her annual Advent Calendar. I sent her the story, we traded a few emails, and she sketched a funny little cartoon to illustrate the piece. That was all I ever knew of Leslie: a few emails, some HTML and a GIF. We never met. Yet even in that brief exchange, Leslie impressed me as a charming character with an outsized talent.
The sad irony is that in the days since Leslie's death, I feel like I've gotten to know her so much better than I ever would have otherwise, thanks to the outpouring of remembrances from people who cared about her. On this Christmas Eve anniversary of my one small memory of Leslie, I just thought I would offer my voice to the chorus.
