Round-up

April 2, 2009

Posting has slowed to a moribund pace around here lately, due in part to my perpetually back-burnered plans to finish migrating this site over to Wordpress. This state of affairs is likely to persist for a while, so in the meantime, here's a quick round-up of some recent goings-on:

  • Encyclopedia Britannica
Let's see, it's 2009 and I'm working for a newspaper company and writing for the Encyclopedia Britannica. Next, I'm thinking of trading in my ballpoint for a quill pen. Still, when the Britannica editors asked me to write an entry on Paul Otlet, how could I say no? Thanks to Don Norman for volunteering me after spotting my piece in the Times a few months ago.

  • Our Sentiments, Exactly
A look at emerging trends in sentiment analysis software, written for Communications of the ACM (who recently completed a long-overdue Web redesign)

  • Doing Business by Design
I recently took on a new role as (P)reviews Editor for Interactions, the ACM's bi-monthly magazine for User Experience types. They recently published my first review: a roll-up of three new books about business and design, namely:

Do You Matter? by Brunner and Emery
Subject to Change by Adaptive Path
The Designful Company by Marty Neumeier

OK, that's about it for now. More to come, someday.
